Mirror of Richard Shuford’s Terminal Information Archive
Richard Shuford maintained his Terminal Information Archive from 1994 to 2010 on the web servers
of the Univerity of Tennessee, Knoxville. The original starting link was
http://www.cs.utk.edu/~shuford/terminal_index.html
.
There is a mirror of his site at Thomas Dickey’s invisible-mirror.net but the
absolute links back to utk.edu in the original code make it rather hard to navigate.
So, I’ve also mirrored the site here. This copy has some edits, so I want to be absolutely clear
on what has changed, so as not to misrepresent responsibility for the information.
- The introductory material and archive contents collection are copyrighted by Richard S. Shuford. Edits to
the pages over the years had left the copyright line in various places, so I have placed them
uniformly at the bottom of all pages. I have simplified the list of dates, which varied per page, to
a date range of 1995 to 2010.
- The archive was created over a period of 15 years and it was rich with links to external
sources. As I find dead links, I am leaving them in place but using a stylesheet to de-emphasise
them (in black text with a red line underneath). That way, you get to read the text as Richard wrote
it, without the bright blue enticement to click that will lead you to disappointment. If I happen to
come across a new home for any of the dead links I will update them but that will be simply luck
rather than any intent to maintain.
- I have tinkered with the page markup in order to remove web counters. I may make further changes
where it suits me; I am an inveterate tinkerer. Perhaps that doesn’t make this a true mirror. Pah.
The most important message is this: the bulk of the value of this site was the information
that Richard saved from newsgroup postings. It is probably only of interest to those of us with
a historical bent, but I’m very grateful for the work that Richard put into it.
